14th Annual Dance Media Film Festival
The 14th Annual Dance Camera West Media Film Festival will include A Choreography and Animation Technology, a panel discussion focusing on the relationship between Animation and Dance. The panel will be moderated by Frank Gladstone (ASIFA-Hollywood Executive Director), and will include Peggy Holmes (Disney Toon Studios) and Penney Finkelman Cox (Animation Producer & Executive).
Starting with a “Brief History of Animated Dance” video and footage from films that illustrate the amazing use of movement in contemporary animation, from the game-changing Beauty and the Beast ballroom sequence to Glen Keane’s recent short Duet, the panel will touch on the use of various animation techniques, including traditional 2D, rotoscoping, stop motion, 3D computer generated imagery, and motion capture. Peggy Holmes will discuss how choreography helps define the emotions and characteristics of such iconic Disney characters as Tinker Bell and Ariel, and how these choreographed moments can be used as a tool to help tell a story.
May 3rd, 2015 – Panel begins at 3:00pm
